Sasha’s Story

“I was rejected by my parents at the age of two and was raised by my aunt, who managed to educate me up to Primary Four. Due to my aunt’s overwhelming responsibilities and financial constraints, she could not pay my school fees beyond that level. She connected me with a friend who employed me as a housemaid, but I was mistreated in that role.

After enduring mistreatment, I ran away. Under peer pressure and influence, I joined a brothel in Katwe, engaging in labour, sex trade, and drug dealing.

In June 2023, Rahab Uganda rescued me from the Katwe Police Station. I was rebellious, aggressive, defiant, stubborn, and frequently used vulgar language at the time. I would fight anyone who annoyed me and behaved like a “tomboy,” along with other behaviours deemed unacceptable in society.

Rahab Uganda has transformed me psychologically, emotionally, spiritually, and socially. Most importantly, they have reintroduced me to formal education. I am in Primary Four and hope to progress to Primary Five under Rahab Uganda’s care. I look forward to reuniting with my family.”
