Alice’s Story

Alice (not the real name) joined Rahab project in 2005, when she was 6yrs of age. Before this she was living with her mother and younger brother 2yrs of age. Their mother who is in the trade (even currently) would lock them in the house every night as she went out to do her business. Sometimes she would invite the men to the house (single room).

Alice recalls a time when her mother was raped by a certain man, and she was later thrown along the road side bleeding. Alice had to nurse her mother during that time. At that age of 6yrs, some of her mother’s “clients” begun to sexually abuse her.

When some concerned neighbours noticed this trend they sought help for the girl and that’s how they got in touch with Rahab to help rescue the girl.

Alice is now undergoing rehabilitation and progressing well academically.

Zoe’s Story

Zoe (not the real name) joined Rahab in 2007. Previously she had been staying with her mother and 4 siblings. Her mother’s income was very low so she used to ask Zoe to go out to the streets and beg for money to supplement their income.

Zoe found a spot near a certain big building down town Kampala where she would hang out begging. While there she got involved with other street kids, she then started sniffing jet fuel and using marijuana.

One of her peers, a 14yr old girl became her friend. She was renting her own small room in a nearby slum. This friend took in Zoe and introduced her to some men. They started having sex in exchange for money and her friend would control the transactions. Still her mum lack the internal resource to rescue her daughter, she watched on indifferently and helplessly.

Some concerned people who had heard about Rahab brought Zoe’s plight to our attention. Now she’s growing well and advancing in education.
